The Dharma For Kids program aims to help children aged between 4 and 10 years develop universal ethics for living a happy life.

We start with a mindfulness meditation followed by a story about topics such as kindness, generosity and honesty and we share ideas and experiences. The children learn skills to calm disturbing emotions and how to protect their actions of body, speech and mind from harming others. Activities that encourage a caring attitude and mindfulness will include stories, meditation, children’s yoga and role play.

We have been learning mantras and each month will introduce a new one with a handout for parents to help the children to understand its meaning.

dfkYoga and activities such as tsa tsa painting and making malas have been popular along with releasing crickets and worms in the garden. Many thanks to the parents and children who contribute to the class, making it so much fun.

It is important to confirm attendance with the office in the week prior to the class to ensure there are sufficient resources for all the children.

Due to legal obligations it is necessary for parents/carers to be with the children throughout the entire 1 hour class. This also enables the learning and practices to be continued at home with the parent’s involvement.dharma-for-kidsnov2016
